Jack Kenny is another of the many outstanding basketball coaches District 61 has roaming courtside around city and central Illinois courts. From 1957 to 1962 he served as an assistant basketball coach at Stephen Decatur, including the state championship 1962 season. He was head basketball coach there from 1963 through 1969. During the Reds 1963-64 year when they won the Centralia Holiday tournament with their 52-46 win over Belleville, they went 33-2. During the 1965-’66 season Jack’s team season record was 26-7 and finished fourth in the state. They made it to the Sweet 16 in six straight seasons and trip to the state tournament in 1966-67. Jack’s had a remarkable coaching record of 136 wins and only 27 loses.
