Rease Binger successfully coached more than boys basketball at Stephen Decatur.

His 1985-86 basketball team advanced to the super-sectional before falling to Romeoville, who then had to forfeit that win and their state fourth-place trophy for having played an ineligible player when they beat Binger's Runnin' Reds. That team finished the season 21-9. Numerous girls of his medaled at the state track and field meet which, to this day, still gives Rease considerable pride.
One of his former basketball players, Terry Cook, previously was inducted into the DPS61 Hall, the same for one of his former girls Track and Field sensations, Julie Foertsch.
